KU MU DRA PARK
Ku Mu Dra Park, Naypyidaw, Myanmar | 2018
The idea for the Ku Mu Dra Park project, in Naypyidaw, is to create an urban, industrial and cultural park around the use of stone and marble, a place that has a museum / exhibition function and that simultaneously welcomes the visitor in a family park where you can also spend your free time in wellness and nature.
In Myamar there is still no such a thing: to create it we thought of European experiences where the history and culture of companies in the design world are shown with new exhibition concepts, in thematic 'campuses' where you can discover the products on a fun tour, discovering new inspirations in living the home and work environments.
The 10 hectares of land close to the new capital, Naypyidaw, are a meeting point between a still luxuriant nature and a city in sure expansion. Therefore, the key points that inspire the project are articulated on two levels: a plan for the construction of structures and a plan for the design and conservation of the natural landscape.
Central is the realization of an open-air museum of stone, where to show local marble and stones and their use, as well as the techniques with which they work through the construction of pavilions and stone themed installations, where to organize thematic exhibitions involving the community of international artists and designers.
The open-air museum is flanked by a restaurant with breathtaking views of the hills, a showroom made of prototypes of contemporary houses to show visitors the characteristics and construction techniques of new types of houses both traditional and innovative, a visitor center that can also be used as a conference room, archive and resource center for stone design designers and researchers consisting of a full-height environment made unique by the green roof with terrace, and finally a wellness center set on the top of the highest hill, dominating the landscape surrounding.
The redesign of the natural area has the aim of transforming it into a real park, intended as a green area extended to a multiplicity of functions and activities. A perfect place for families, with walks and trekking routes, play areas and picnic areas, equipped with all the necessary equipment for its use as seats, staging points, observation points, gazebos to cool off during the warmer days , natural lakes and streams, as well as greenhouses and shelters for animals and waterfowl.
The conservation of all the most important existing tree species (tamarind, mango, dragon fruit, etc ..) tends to enhance the existing green system that constitutes the spirit of the place, while the new planting of trees, shrubs and flowers together with the rearrangement of the present vegetation , give a distinctly natural and aesthetic character to the park as a whole.
In short, the project intends Ku Mu Dra Park as a great open-air resource to make visible and usable in an innovative way the use of stone, in a captivating location where the general public can increase in a pleasant experience, the awareness of contemporary taste.
