SUNNY TERRACE HOUSE
Rizziconi, Reggio Calabria, Italy | 2007
The project is to build a home for two families. The ground floor will contain a larger apartment of 180 sqm while the first floor apartment will be of smaller dimensions.
Despite of disposing of an authorization for a larger building on this site the owner commissioned to construct only on a half as big surface of this ground.
The owner moreover expressed his desire to build an Energy saving house. As a response to this the project makes use of a strong thermic isolation eliminating thermic waste through the entire roof of the building. It will contain solar collectors for the production of warm water and photovoltaic panels for the storage of electricity.
The main structure is made of reinforced concrete. Wooden solai!!!! extend along the longitudinal axis of the building, except for the part towards the South-east, recognizable for its red color and its large angular opening. While the main body of the house will be kept white, two smaller parts will be colored: the staircase will be painted blue and the chimney yellow.
These choices of the volumes, of the composition and colour express the hope of performing a strong impact on the desolate situation of the surrounding area, which gave prevalence to the quantity of concrete houses rather than to the quality of these living spaces.
